Since 1928, when fifteen farmers founded the Calitzdorp Wine Cellar in order to export Hanepoot grapes, this cellar in the heart of the “Port capital of South-Africa” has offered choice products to discerning clients.
Wines on offer includes off-dry white, dry white, dry red, Port and dessert wines.
The cellar is situated overlooking the beautiful Gamka River Valley, with a big stoep where wines can be tasted while enjoying the view.

Carlo Sciocatti is the winemaker at Calitzdorp Wine Cellar. He has a passion for wine and like to share his wine knowldege with people.

He likes an in your face red wine that carries through from the nose to the pallet.

He is a very open and friendly people’s person and loves animals, golfing and predicts rugby scores on superbru. His pets are an Australian cattle dog, a Dutch hound and a ginger cat.
Meet the assistant winemaker
Abraham Pretorius
Abraham Pretorius started working as a gardener in 1996 at Calitzdorp Wine Cellar and worked his way up to assistant winemaker. Abraham went on an exchange program in 2006 to France for 3 months where he gained some experience on French winemaking and received his national certificate in winemaking in 2015.

His favourite wine from the cellar is the Muscadel and Hanepoot. He definitely has a sweet tooth!

Junette Momberg
Junette Momberg is the administrative assistant, tasting room manager and handles the cellar’s social media accounts.

Calitzdorp Cellar Chardonnay, slightly wooded Chardonnays are generally my preference.
