This Klein Karoo white blend is named after our own indigenous plant, Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum), known locally as Kougoed – meaning chewable! Rumoured to have some wondrous herbal properties, it is also the derivative of our municipality name Kannaland, in which Calitzdorp is located.

The Axe Hill Kanna 2020 is a blend of Chenin Blanc (52%), Viognier (30%) and Palomino (18%) with a pale golden colour and on the nose complex aromatics with a hint of vanilla and a spicy mélange of yellow fruit: Cape gooseberry, citrus blossoms and loquat. Full bodied, rich fruit arriving on the palate with mouth filling texture and depth. The pithy, citrus expression completes the lingering finish.

Aged in older barrels and bottled unfiltered, it has some skin tannins, notes of hay bales, lanolin and honey and a refreshing finish.

The wine was scored 90 by Tim Atkin in the 2021 SA Report. For more information, please visit www.axehill.co.za
