More about the Klein Karoo ...

The Klein Karoo offers visitors uniquely South African cuisine, a warm welcome and an unusual and diverse landscape. The Klein Karoo is also a lifestyle destination. Visitors to our region come here for quality and inspiration. A visitor may expect:

Breathtaking scenery - One of our main attractions is our unspoilt natural environment. We have majestic mountain views - the Langeberg in the southwest, the red koppies at Calitzdorp, the Swartberg with its well-known pass near Oudtshoorn and the Outeniqua. To experience Klein Karoo veldt at its best, Cape Nature’s Anysberg is a definite yes.

Unique vegetation - The Klein Karoo houses three of the most important biomes that were identified as world hot spots, namely fynbos, thicket and succulent Karoo. Each of these important biomes houses at least 1 500 endemic species (more than in the whole of Europe) and most of these plants are extraordinary, special and unusual.

Quality wine - Wine form an integral part of the daily life in the Klein Karoo. The country’s favourite dessert wine, Muscadel, is produced here alongside Port, potstill brandy and quality dry red and white wines. Wine styles vary from full-bodied, wooded cabernets to lighter, fruity wines for easy drinking.

Cuisine - The Klein Karoo cuisine is making headlines these days. Inspired food prepared with fresh, local ingredients and love.

Our people - A true asset. They will make a lasting impression on visitors with their friendliness, their hospitality, their helpfulness and their warmth.

Atmosphere - Visitors are also very appreciative of the atmosphere they find here, which is regarded as rural tranquillity at its best. Visitors find that they can relax and be inspired.

We can truly raise a glass to the diversity of the Klein Karoo and its people!
