Dear
reader
Winter in the Klein Karoo is a time to stand
still, take a deep breath and just be.
Recuperate. The harvest is now finally over,
wine allocated and the vineyards at rest. The
cold and the rain a welcome relief. This was an extreme
season, to use the words of Meyer Joubert from
Joubert-Tradauw Private Cellar, but not one
without promises. We do expect some delightful
surprises. |

Well done, Margaux!

Karusa
Vineyards have launched the
following new vintage wines
in May:
2010 Southern Slope Sauvignon blanc
2010 Lifestyle Sauvignon
blanc/Chenin blanc
2009 One Tree Hill Pinotage
2010 Pinotage Rose (off-dry)
2009 Stonerock Viognier (2nd
bottling)
Red Muscadel Vintage Blend (375ml)
After opening their tasting facility
in August 2009 and having their
wines listed by top restaurants,
hotels and golf resorts in the
Southern Cape, volumes were quickly
diminished.
Having nearly
sold out on most wines by April, the
white wines from the 2010 vintage
could not be bottled quicker and
show exceptional promise even with
the 2010 vintage being a great
challenge. |

Karusa
Vineyards have
secured a definite niche market in the
Southern Cape ensuring quality and
exclusivity to their clients by deliberate
placement and not going the liquor store or
supermarket route. In producing limited
volumes in both their “entry level” and
reserve collections, Karusa Vineyards have created a
loyal following in a very short time.

Meet the winemaker. Meyer
Joubert of Joubert-Tradauw Private
Cellar’s first love is nature, the
whole terroir. He makes wine because
it comes from the earth and in his
wines, one is able to taste his
beloved Tradouw valley in all its
dimensions. Furthermore, Meyer makes
wine because he loves to socialize,
eat good food and drink good wine.
His favourite wine from the
cellar: The barrel-fermented
Chardonnay. It is a style unique to
the valley. |
 |
Fact about Meyer you probably did
not know: He loves to scuba dive,
riding his motorbike visiting
and seeing places not normally seen.
His views on the 2010 harvest:
Extreme. Warm days, cool nights, dry air and
draught. A difficult harvest, but a surprising
one delivering full, well-rounded wines.
