Dear reader

The diversity of the region was once again highlighted during the 2009 harvest in view of the fact that no two cellars experienced the same type of usual harvest problems, which were fortunately easily overcome. The fact that harvesting generally took place two weeks later than usual, allowed for a longer ripening period and this ensured a harvest of the highest quality with exceptional fruit and colour.

  

Welcome to yet another new member. Du'SwaRoo Farm is located 1.8 kilometers north of Calitzdorp on the road to Groenfontein and lies across the lower slopes of Besemkop, the distinctive round topped koppie south of the magnificent Swartberg Mountains. The farm was purchased in 2000, and the name Du'SwaRoo represents the origins and the new home of the owners - namely Durban, SWA (South West Africa/Namibia) and Klein Karoo.

 
Wines are made under the Du'SwaRoo label from the Shiraz vineyards and Port cultivars on the farm as well as grapes sourced from neighbouring farms. In true boutique farm style, all wine making activities occur on the farm. Quantities are small so that these wines, which have been nurtured with much passion and care, will remain exclusive.

Axe Hill was awarded 4½ stars for their Cape Vintage Port 2006 and 3½ stars for the Axe Hill Dry White Port in the 2009 Platter Wine Guide.

At the 2009 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, the Axe Hill Cape Vintage Port 2006 was awarded a gold medal. Nicely done!

Joubert-Tradauw Private Cellar was recommended 3 stars for their 2006 Syrah by a recent Decanter Wine Magazine tasting for Rhône style wine.

Their 2004 Syrah was chosen for the 2009 Nederburg Wine Auction, making Joubert-Tradauw one of 7 newcomers at this event. The auction takes place on September 11 and 12 at Nederburg in Paarl.
