Dear reader

Karusa Vineyards were the first in our region to harvest on January, 16th. Their Chardonnay is destined for the Karusa Karoo Classique Prestige Cuveé Blanc de Blanc 2010. A whole mouthful to say, but every sip to be enjoy and savoured. As true to every harvest, equipment breakage was a problem and the grapes were transported to neighbouring Grundheim to be pressed. With lot of laughs later, this precious wine is now safely tucked away.

May the 2010 harvest in the Klein Karoo continue in a spirit of goodwill and fulfil all expectations.

Karusa Vineyards invite you to join them for a Valentine & Bubbly picnic on Saturday, 13 February. Enjoy the relaxing atmosphere at Karusa while winemaker Jacques Conradie conducts a short tasting session on the Karusa Karoo Classique Collection with the first official release of their brand new Cap Classique, the 2009 Pinot Noir Brut Rosé. Afterwards, savour an ice-cold glass of Pinot Noir Rosé and a brunch picnic basket with your loved one.

Tasting starts at 10h00 and costs R75 per person - tasting session, glass of bubbly and picnic basket included.

Please book with Saretha Conradie at 083 9955927 or saretha@karusa.co.za. Think Karoo. Drink Karusa!

Southern Cape Vineyards are anticipating their first Cape Pot Still brandy under the Ladismith label in early August, complementing the world-famous Joseph Barry brand from the Barrydale Cellar. But we have to wait till later this year to learn more about the brandy and to have an opportunity to taste it!

Visitors strolling up to the vineyards of Herold Wines in the Outeniquas, have been returning blue lipped. Not because they are tasting grapes - for our season has only just begun, not because they take a bottle of the newly released Pinot Noir 2008 to enjoy during a vineyard picnic, but because its blueberry season at Herold Wines.

Pick your own blueberries at R50 per kg from now till mid February. Important: wear long pants, sturdy shoes and warm tops. The wind and mist can make the afternoons pretty chilly.
