De Krans Wine Cellar in Calitzdorp made history the past week becoming the first cellar in South Africa to use the new Integrated Production in Wine/Wine of Origin certification seal on its first 2010 wines. These special, voluntary seals may only be used by IPW registered cellars that have been audited successfully. This seal guarantees the consumer that wines approved under this new scheme, were produced with integrity and in a sustainable way.

The first wines of De Krans of the 2010 harvest, a dry White Muscadel, Merlot Rosé and an unwooded Pinotage are all destined for Germany just in time for the World Cup in South Africa. The colourful labels were especially designed by the importers.

De Krans has been involved in Nature Conservation since the 1990’s and was also the first member of Biodiversity in Wine (BWI) in the Klein Karoo.

For more information please contact De Krans at 044 213 3314 or dekrans@mweb.co.za.

Barry & Nephews Muscat Potstill - perfect with cheese. Francois Ferreira writes: “The first time I tasted the Muscat Potstill, I realised that this brandy can do cheese. Not any cheese, but a strong blue cheese. It must not be too creamy or to dry either and we tried several cheeses available on the shelves. The winner is Simonsberg Simonzola, perfectly balanced - just as the brandy.

Use the cheese as it is, with a biscuit for the lekkerte, accompanied with a slice of green fig preserve. Take sip of the Muscat Potstill, sit back and enjoy! If you want to impress, bake a blue cheese soufflé - twice baked of course served with a syrup of sour figs and the brandy. Gorge down with a glass of Muscat Potstill! “

3rd Brandy Festival celebrates SA Brandy – the world’s finest. Borne from the vine, distilled to perfection and crowned by the world, South African brandy has no equal. Celebrating South Africa’s iconic elixir, the Standard Bank Fine Brandy Festival is a unique, all-brandy event taking place from 5 to 7 May 2010 at the Sandton Sun.

Themed ‘South African Brandy: the world’s finest’, the festival opens the door to the local brandy industry’s continued achievements on the world stage. Bringing together all who share a passion for this treasured drink, connoisseurs and budding brandy enthusiasts will mingle with major distillers, multi-award winning brandy masters and smaller, single-estate brandy makers.

Meet the tasting room personnel. Sue-Marie Calitz is the new face behind the wine counter at Ladismith Wine Cellar. Her duties include administration, presenting wine tastings and handling wine sales. She comes from Calitzdorp and has a sister and a brother – both winemakers!

Her favourite wine from the cellar:
The Ladismith Pinotage and Ladismith Ruby Cabernet – drinkable wines with soft tannins.

Fact about Sue-Marie you probably did not know:
She loves ribs, sushi and her Jack Russell.

Yours Sincerely
