Synonymous with Ladismith is Towerkop
("Magic Mountain"), that shelters the
town - the logical choice for the
cellar's flagship label. It also speaks
of our deep-rootedness in Ladismith and
Kleine Karoo-winemaking since the cellar
began operating independently in 1939.
At
the beginning of 2005, the cellar joined
forces with the neighbouring Barrydale Cellar and formed Southern Cape
Vineyards, an umbrella company, to share
and exchange technology and capacity to
make the most - and the best - of the
resources available to them.

Meet the tasting room personnel.
Sue-Mari Calitz is the new face behind the
wine counter at Ladismith Cellar. Her
duties include administration, presenting
wine tastings and handling wine sales. She
comes from Calitzdorp and has a sister and a
brother – both winemakers!
Her favourite wine from the cellar:
The Ladismith Pinotage and Ladismith
Ruby Cabernet – drinkable wines with soft
tannins.
Fact about Sue-Marie you probably did not
know:
She loves ribs, sushi and her Jack
Russell.

 |
|
Meet the winemaker.
Emile Schoch is the winemaker at Southern
Cape Vineyards (Ladismith Cellar).
He grew up in the Porterville
district and after he received his
BSc. in Agriculture at the
University of Stellenbosch, he
worked for 11 year at the KWV, 19
years at Nordale in Bonnievale and 3
years at Lutzville Vineyards.
His favourite wine from the
cellar: He loves wine and more
specifically, the Chardonnay, Shiraz
and Ruby Cabernet from Ladismith
Cellar. And naturally the Joseph
Barry potstill range. |
 |
Facts about Emile you probably
did not know: He is infatuated with vintage
automobiles and tractors, especially Fords and Chevs and old two cylinder John Deers.
|
Meet the winemaker.
Hermias
Vollgraaff is the viticulturist and
assistant winemaker at Ladismith
Cellar. He grew up on a farm near
Loeriesfontein, but went to school
in Malmesbury – hence his love for
winemaking.
His favourite wine from the
cellar: The Shiraz and
Chardonnay.
Facts about Hermias you probably
did not know: Any sport,
especially rugby. He is the outdoors
type and love hunting and the social
... And food. Traditional dishes
like kerrie afval, skilpadjies,
skaapstertjies ... |
 |
Hermias’s view for the 2010/2011 harvest:
Although the draught plays a big role in
the size of the harvest, it seems that the
grape bunches will be quite big by harvest
time. Weather and climate will direct the
course of the harvest as always. |
