The boutique wine farm Hillock Wines, nestled in the fertile Dwarsrivier valley below the Towerkop mountain near the small town of Ladismith, is launching its first harvest Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and a Hillock personality blend , Barrel Roll. This area is gaining prominence as a wine region, and there are some exciting new kids on the block. We believe Hillock Wines is a newcomer to look out for. Mark Carmichael Green is the Cellar Master, Duan Brits the winemaker and Riaan Steyn the viticulturist. Hillock Wines are produced on the guest farm Mymering. Owner Dr Andy Hillock, a retired surgeon from Port Elizabeth and keen guide on the farm’s picturesque adventure trails His wife Penny, an accomplished cook, are your hosts. Barend, Mymering’s manager will see you to your accommodation shadowed by a pair of black king poodles!

Meet the
winemaker. Duan Brits is the
winemaker of our newest member,
Hillock Wines near Ladismith. He
spent the years between 1997 and
2007 as winemaker in Stellenbosch,
France, Germany and the USA. In
South Africa he was involved at
Slaley, Muratie, Rainbows End,
Marklew and started Juno Wines in
2002.
His favourite wine from the
cellar: Hillock Wines have 3
white wines and a Shiraz, but 2011
is the first harvest, with promises
of quality – no favourite yet.
Facts about Duan you probably did
not know: Duan is a professional
hunter and has a venison business,
Klein Karoo Venison. |
