Southern Cape Bottled Wine Show 2009
Each year bottled wines are judged in
the Southern Cape Bottled Wine Show. Only wine made from grapes
harvested in the region may be entered. This year delivered a few
exciting results.
Wines that excelled were the Muscat and Port. De Krans Cellar was
appointed as the Champion Cellar and Uitvlucht Wines as the Reserve
Champion Cellar in the region with their Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, the
Champion Dry Red. The Madder Botha Trophy for the Champion Wine was
awarded to the De Krans Cape Vintage Reserve 2006, the Champion Port of
the competition. The cellar received the trophy for the Champion Unusual
Red Wine, a Touriga Nacional 2008.
Karusa Private Producer received trophy for the Champion Dry White, a
2008 Chardonnay/Viognier blend. The Champion Potstill Brandy, Joseph
Barry Potstill 5 Year, was entered by Barrydale Cellar and the
Calitzdorp White Muscat 2007 is the Champion Fortified Wine of the
competition.
